This newly revised workshop is designed for anyone interested in opening a climbing gym or expanding their existing climbing gym business. We will begin with a general discussion of understanding your market, the business planning process and the business plan document. We will discuss financing alternatives including equity financing. We will conclude with a general discussion and questions and answers. By the conclusion of this workshop, participants will have an understanding of the challenging process of planning “how to open a commercial rock climbing facility”.
Workshop Outline:
Bob Richards provides consulting services to a variety of clients in business development, new product commercialization, acquisitions, divestitures and strategic planning. He is an owner and CEO of AdventureMed, LLC, which develops and markets wilderness and disaster medicine education programs. In 1992, he founded Rockreation, operating large membership-based indoor rock climbing facilities in California, Nevada and Utah. Bob currently is a provider in CWA’s Climbing Wall Instructor Certification Program and serves as an advisor to the CWA Board of Directors as an Emeritus Board Member.
Dan Hague founded and led Sportrock Climbing Centers in the Washington D.C. area for its first 11 years and in that time, Sportrock grew to become the East Coast’s largest climbing company. During his tenure at Sportrock, Dan developed the successful Fast Forward Progression, a series of classes that helped thousands of Sportrock customers acquire climbing movement skills quickly and effectively. Dan, along with co-author Doug Hunter, wrote The Self-Coached Climber in which he reveals the many principles, tips, and tricks which make his instructional method so successful. In 2008, Dan founded Rise Up Climbing a climbing gym in Lynchburg, Virginia. Dan is a member of the CWA Board of Directors.
